Karate training is a gross motor activity that helps youngsters develop a sense of integrity about their bodies. Balance, coordination, posture, and general movements improve with karate training. The pre-adolescent, in particular, finds that karate training helps him or her cope with the clumsiness that often accompanies the spurt of growth at this age. Some of the positive aspects kids receive from participating in our Kenzen Karate Do class include the following:

Discipline. The repetition, details, rhythms, rules, and protocols that are emphasized during class can all aid in the child’s self discipline.

Self Confidence. While a child is learning how to restrain an opponent and protect himself, he is also building self confidence in his skill.

Fitness. Karate Do definitely keeps kids active in a fun environment and builds their coordination and overall fitness level, which will benefit them as they participate in other activities. It is also an activity for kids that is year round versus seasonal and works well for those needing more structure.

Self Motivation. Kids can track their individual progress and success as they work up to different levels. Many forms of Karate Do have colored belts to mark that progression. Kids often want to work to the next level. They work for their own merits while developing awareness that they are responsible for their actions.

Self Defense. Karate Do also offers an additional bonus that other sports do not provide. Karate teaches self-defense. In the unsettling times in which we live, knowledge.
